In order to run a successful clothing line or any business in that matter you must first know where you are going. Write a plan?.not saying you must write a plan but it is advised by many especially if you are an unorganized person by nature lol! The day to day task of running a clothing line can be strenuous enough, but you can have a heads up over the competition by brainstorming ideas, planning carefully, watching your finances, and executing this all in a timely manner. All that and more can be accomplished through writing a business plan.

Ignoring that there is more to running a clothing line than designing and promoting will have your business in the designer graveyard before you turn a profit. Many designers hate the thought of having to write a business plan and easily write it off as something you can just pay someone else to do they would rather be creative (Believe me I understand). It makes no sense to me having someone else write your business plan for you, because it is YOUR vision and YOUR goals and YOUR future at hand not theirs. Preparing it yourself and paying for a professional to revise it is a different story, but think about it you know what you want out of your business and preparing it yourself will only make you understand the process better and easier for you to progress in your daily tasks to eventually meet your planned goals.

Writing a plan will help you identify bumps on your road to success and how to get around problems that will arise and believe me they will arise, but if you have a well-written thought out business plan you will be better prepared to handle the hardships that come with running your clothing line. Whatever you do, don?t just copy another business plan it makes no sense because their goals could and probably are different from yours. Depending on location, capital, resources, and other factors business plans can vary greatly amongst clothing lines. Taking an outline and filling it in with your own information is okay as long as they are catered to your own plans and goals.
