Sounds like an internship I wouldn’t mind taking myself if I had more time. I think many will jump at this offer, because it actually says you will learn about entrepreneurship in the apparel industry from a 20 year garment industry veteran and it’s paid.

The internship will require you to work with the owner of Milano Merchandising a sales professional who has processed over $3 million dollars in sales and you will also get to work with top 7th avenue designers. Your responsibilities include….they didn’t really list any but that you will need to have the mindset of an entrepreneur, which sounds fine until they have you fetching the morning coffee, but we hope that is not the case.

    Hi
No, you will definitely not be fetching coffee. It is run more like ‘the apprentice” and I am on a grant program but it has passed the summer deadline. I know what you are saying about “fetching coffee”, but I worry you give the wrong impression to future interns.
I remember a very good designer, with his own company, that told me when he was working for Bill Blass he was asked to walk his dog which he didn’t much care for. But, bottom line, he was smart enough to know he was training with the best.
I will speaking with a major fashion school on their board of directors to talk about internships and one of the problems is “entitlement”. I have now been in business over 25years, and working under my own name since 1991 and I have yet to have one intern who knew anything about fabric even after taking two sememsters in school. And many of them who cannot sew. Hopefully things are changeing. And I have been rewarded with over 25 years of watching beautiful young people become successful.
But, a little bit of “paying it forward” in an internship is not a bad thing. You would be surprised at how much the world repays even the tinest of kindness.
Thank you for your kind words, and keep designing.
