roadblock success
I think that we can all agree that financing seems to be the number 1 reason for why most startup clothing companies say they’re not succeeding or able to grow their clothing company or even start one for that matter.

I get so many emails from people that say Fred I have a great idea, but I don’t have the necessary financing to get my clothing company off the ground and I know if I did we would be a big hit! Something of that sort, but I get at least 10 of those per week and honestly it’s kind of scary to see, because it is not only in the fashion industry that you hear people talk about the what if’s and maybes of why they’re not succeeding.

So many if I met this person and if they wore it or if I could quit my job and work on it full time…so many excuses, but what many fail to realize is that many of us are up against the same obstacles and reality that you faced, but the successful few are the ones that chose to overcome it..what will you make of your destiny in the fashion industry?

Will you be another statistic or go on to be a multi-million dollar corporation and be praised by your thousands of loyal customers and make your mark in this billion dollar industry? It’s all up to you.

We can sit here and write articles about how to start a clothing line and where to find the pieces, but many will still not follow the recipe or take advantage of what is all here for free. There are numerous outlets for promotion, free resources online, and just the internet as a whole gives you access to many resources that many of the great designers of our time didn’t have when they first started so sites like Dobizo where not even in the works.

I think success is a mindset you must obtain and once your in that lane nobody or obstacle can hold you back, but you must choose rather to sit around and make excuses or hit the pavement running and do something about it.

I’m starting to see a lot of the same questions that have been answered on the blog many times being asked so I’m going to start recycling old articles and posting them for all the new readers we have…just in case they missed it.

So in theory I think the only roadblock to success we really face isn’t financing, promoting, meeting the right person, being in the right city, but ourselves because ultimately we control how hard we are willing to work to reach our goals and achieve our dreams the above are just speedbumps slowing us down or testing us to see how bad we really want it.

What are some of the obstacles you’ve faced while starting your clothing line? Tell us about them and we will see that many of us face similar obstacles as most other designer entrepreneurs in the apparel industry.

Let’s see, I have had enough obstacles to last me a life time. Here are some….Just before Sexy Skins became a legitimate business, I found a lump on my forehead which after many tests, is nothing to worry about. My soon to be X husband at the time, had a stroke, then open heart surgery to replace a valve, fixed a hole in his heart, and an aneurysm, which left him with another stroke while on the operating table AND incredible debt. My oldest sister,,more like a Mom, developed Leukemia and died this past September. Less than 3 months later, the most important woman and inspiration in my life, my Mother, died of Cancer. All personal trials, but ones that have made me stronger. They may have also slowed the progression and growth of my company, however, it makes me more determined to work harder to achieve my goals. After all, I have the perfect success, rags to riches story to tell Oprah!! lol

    I love this….

“What exactly does it take to live the life of your dreams? Perfect timing? Fortunate opportunities? A million dollars in the bank? Not even close. It takes a decision; a simple decision that will ultimately test the strength of your commitment and depth of your faith.” ~Karen Wright

I guess I should share some business obstacles too…lack of funding, and loss of monies to a bad web designer (you could say the latter is more like a setback than an obstacle). Lack of funding has made me even more creative and ingenious, and determined to succeed.

I feel that this post is right on time and I know that there are others who feel the same. It is very discouraging when you have all of these ideas in your head but can’t get them to materialize. I have decided to focus on my present situation from day to day. Each day I ask myself what is it I can actually do today that will aide in the productivity of my dream. Sometimes it is as simple as doing some research online or making some calls. This actually helps me stay productive and sane
