This post was inspired by a comment on the Unity Mansion Trade Show preview. Here is the comment by Thom our star forum moderator:

Pool, Project, MAGIC, don?t you think the landscape is getting crowded just a little with yet another show? Whoooah wait a minute, a private , invite only show and it?s in a mansion !! I wonder what you can see at this show that you can?t see at MAGIC or it?s sister shows ?

My response:

I know?it can?t be that many buyers in the world?but I think the main thing many shows are trying to do is cater to different categories of clothing like contemporary, street wear, designer?

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on all the different trade shows that are made available to buyers and exhibitors.

I mean really do we have time to attend every trade show that appeals to our target buyers? If so is it cost efficient or do we receive a good ROI?

These are questions that come to my mind when thinking about attending ANY trade show let alone 3-4 different shows in one year’s time, not even thinking about the fact that some apparel shows have 2 shows per year.

The shows we speak of are only the ones that are mainly for sourcing new contacts and networking/maintaining accounts with buyers/retailers. So this doesn’t include the textile/fabric sourcing trade shows or the many industry specific trade shows made available nowadays, which we have wrote about in the Industry Events category.

What are you guys thoughts? What trade shows will you attend? What will help you make the decision?

    Being a buyer I can definitely attest to there being to many trade shows. Magic, project, pool, united, fasho fasho and unity. I know it’s unrealistic, but I wish the could combine forces and have all the streetwear brands in one place. I was going from show to show and I constantly saw brands that didn’t really fit into, or at least could have been better placde at a different show.
