Alpha Mart Trade Show
The first day of the trade show was a little akward, because they wanted all types of private information to get into the America’s Mart show if you weren’t an ‘active’ exhibitor…basically somebody shelling out $100’s for a booth. I called ahead and was told all I needed was a business card and photo identification since I was a previous exhibitor. Once I arrived and attempted to sign-in I was greeted by somebody who wanted to know every aspect of my operation known as Dobizo and the clerk I spoke to earlier denied ever speaking to me basically calling me a liar in the nicest way possible. Eventually I was let in ‘this time’, but next time I would need to bring more information ( A list of credentials they want about your business) I think it helps with them marketing the show in some form or fashion.

Many things have changed at the show since I first exhibited there in 2005. First off there was less of a women’s wear presence at the show back then now the first floor is compiled of women’s clothing and below is where the menswear resides. Also the traffic seemed far greater on the first day when I exhibited as compared to now where women’s wear is setup on the first day and men’s clothing isn’t exhibited until a day later very confusing and kept the show traffic at a slow crawl.

Even though I was bored with the slow traffic at the show I did get the chance to speak with a few first time exhibitors and get their thoughts on the whole trade show experience which I will be sharing with you guys in a later article.

Just being at the Americas Mart show brought back many old memories of nervousness, anxiety, the hustle & bustle of getting ready for the first day of the show and being a newbie basically going into the fashion industry blind and learning along the way never looking back.

I also met one or two of the Dobizo Network members…Good Luck!

Do these people not issue press passes ? Where you aware of any other media outlets that were covering this show ? Or do you think Americas Mart Atlanta want the world to think all is well in the apparel world and are trying to limit media exposure ?

If you were getting the 3 rd degree Fred, it could be that they were really trying to find out who your audience is .

I actually just told them I was an online store of up and coming designers Thom :)..they acted as if they were not allowing media.

Maybe the blogosphere is direct competition to “market dates”. You would think press coverage might help bolster attendance and make everyone a bit happier.

I look forward to your follow up piece. I think many Dobizo readers would benefit from a candid article on this show and how it may tie in with their marketing objectives.

I think the slow nature of this show may be tied in with a poor economy as well.
