Clutch decisions take on two rolls in business: they come often and they are severely crucial. Fred spoke on clutch decisions before and they tie into what I’m trying to get across now, which is in business there is never time to assume and there is never time to delay. These two actions can set you back and halt your forward business growth. For instance, the supplier that I source my t-shirts from has been out of size medium in the style that I use for quite some time. On Monday they had the medium in one color that I wanted but not the other. So I thought ok, I’ll just wait until the other color is in and order them both at the same time to save on shipping costs thinking I would be doing myself some good. So finally the other color that I was waiting for came in yesterday so I proceed to order the new color and go back for the other and low and behold they are sold out again leaving me in a bigger jam because I’m already behind in printing because the printer I’m sourcing through doesn’t have the right size screen press for my designs saying it won’t be in until next week. So now I have no shirts printed, only one color in a medium size and now I have to wait for the next opportunity to jump on the other color, all of this and I will now miss my launch date of June 1st. So learn from my mistake and never assume that an opportunity will be there when you go back for it and never delay on even what seems to be the smallest of decisions. This article is definitely related to the article on Time Management: Having ample time to access all your opportunities and Making “clutch” business decisions.

Ace is pretty accurate when he says never assume or delay. He is having difficulities when ordering blanks, as he assumed his supplier would replentish the stock frequently. As it turns out, not so, back to planning board, hopefully you have a Plan B.

This type of inconvenience is commonplace when you start manufacturing your own apparel. Some garments can use several supply sources and all of them need to be orchestrated so that all materials arrive in roughly the same time frame. This takes close planning and sometimes you need to make quick decisions or have alternate suppliers lined up. One very important thing many of you should know.

When ordering materials, whether it be blanks or piece goods to make shirts, your purchasing of product is made far easier if you can pay by credit card. Suppliers will not ship today unless you are very established or you can pay upfront. New clothing companies will struggle without the ability to buy anything on credit. Most contractors will also need COD for payment.

Ace just touches on planning, but his points are very worthy of noting. Dr. Hussell is right about haste makes …., you just need to do your research carefully, and then act quickly.

Waeone, you need to relax a little. Some contractors, (the good ones at least, are busy and this part of a relationship takes some manuevering. By getting all pissed and bothered and threatening to take your orders to Latin America just makes you more of a target. You aiming to disillusion the contractor world ? It’s pretty small and word travels fast. And you aren’t exactly a known entity. Until you have any sizeable order where a factory can make some decent money, your just another ordinary guy/gal competing in a highly competitive business, except you are are putting a big target on your back.
